Having spent more than fifteen years involved in photography, I have decided to release my images for your viewing pleasure. I hope you enjoy browsing through them as much as I have enjoyed taking them over the years.
My Photography Background
My photographic archive spans four slide and negative drawers, totalling more than 12,000 images on; 35mm, medium and large formats, black & white, colour and infrared, negatives and transparencies. My digital collection currently contains in excess of 10,000 images and is always growing.
1993 I took ownership of my first camera with interchangeable lenses (SLR), a second-hand Practika with a faulty light metering system! As it turns out this was probably a blessing as I quickly had to learn how to approximate the required exposure times to achieve a photo that was neither too dark or too bright, research into the technical aspects lead me to acquire a used light meter to more accurately balance light. I had reached a milestone!
1994 saw my first foray into the world of black and white photography. I built my first darkroom in an attempt to realise the full potential of this medium. At this moment I knew photography and all its magical qualities would forever capture my interest.
1996 I set up a colour darkroom and set about further honing my developing and printing techniques. The ability to take a photograph, process the film and finally develop the prints pushed the boundaries of my technical interest in photography to levels never previously experienced. To have full control of these stages broadened my ability to delivery a photograph as I saw it through the lens, not how an automated printing machine decided it should look.
1998 having worked on many photographic assignments from commercial and industrial photography to weddings and portraiture, I found myself always returning to my roots and passion for two subjects; the "natural world", including all its sub-sets and classic military warbirds "aviation". It is these images I bring to this site.
2001 was my first venture into the digital era, the ability to preserve negatives and slides using a film scanner seemed ideal, however the convenience afforded by digital camera’s especially Canon’s EOS 1 series was too tempting to dismiss. I now shoot almost exclusively on EOS digital, still favouring the simplicity and quality of prime lenses over zooms.
And finally to the present, this website was created as an outlet to share the world as I view it, which I feel shows my own perspective and interpretation. Please note, the photographs I present here have been taken for my love of the subject matter and photography, no images on Dave Imaging have been taken for commercial sales intention.
I hope you have great pleasure from viewing the images on this site and in your home…
